| An important battle took place at the Vitkov Hill in Prague in 1420. Protestant Hussite warriors, led by Jan Zizka of Trocnov, defeated crusaders there. The area is called Zizkov in memory of the battle. The National Memorial was built there in the 20th century, in honour of the Czech legionaries and the independent Czechoslovakia. The biggest bronze equestrian statue in the world, depicting Jan Zizka, is situated in front of the memorial. It can be seen from far, rising at the top of the hill. |
